Celebrating National Batik Day in Elementary School
Monday, October 2nd, 2017 was a special day. This was National Batik Day in which many people in Indonesia celebrated one of the national treasures, that is Batik. Since 2009, Batik was legalized to be a National Treasure, therefore the people’s motivation to wear Batik increased.
The same thing happened in Sekolah Dian Harapan Cikarang, all the teachers, staffs, and students wore Batik to the school. However, not just wearing Batik, Elementary school students did some amazing activities related to Batik Day on that moment.
To begin the day, there was a flag salute as a form of showing respect toward our nation and all the heroes who already set us free from the colonialism. To make it special, the students were wearing Batik and sing the national song “Satu Nusa Satu Bangsa” in order to celebrate ourselves to be unified in one nation, Indonesia.
After the flag salute, the students came back to class to watch the history and kinds of Batik in Indonesia. As we know, Batik Indonesia has so many kinds of patterns and all of them spread out from Sabang to Merauke. We should be proud to have Batik as our national identity.
After watching the movie, the students came down to the field and they were doing the experiment, which was painting Batik on white t-shirt. The activities were so fun and the students really enjoyed the moments. They created so many patterns on their clothes and they were so colorful.
Through these activities, students were expected to be proud with the cultures of Indonesia in which God already provided us with wealthy land and wonderful cultures.
