SAVED TO SERVE
Sekolah Dian Harapan Kupang held Easter and Earth Day Celebration under the theme "Saved to serve". The purpose of this event is to urge all citizens of SDH Kupang to reflect, discern and apply the work of salvation that has been received, by keeping and conserve the environment as a part of God’s cultural mandate as written in Genesis 1:28. Thus, this fallen environment can be used in accordance with God’s will.
Earth week activities were conducted during April, 17th 2017 until April, 21st 2017. This activity included 3Rs (Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle), Cleaning time, and Go Green. During the earth week, there were several things were done related to the 3Rs, those were suggested every citizen of SDH Kupang to use lunch box and water bottle to reduce trash, store and use scrap papers, fold used plastic for reusing it, reduce AC and water usage, save energy at home, and sort trash. These things were not only done by the students but also all citizens of SDH Kupang. Besides, the devotion in the classroom during the earth week related with creation, fall, redemption, and consummation.
On April, 21st 2017, the culminating day, there were several activities were done, one of them was the Easter service. Easter service was done in three parts: for kindy, junior, and senior students. Worship servants consisted of several senior department students who have been mentored by teachers. Besides, SDH Kupang also conducted recycle activities from used materials. The output of this recycle must be a useful stuff that would be given to the K1 – Grade 2 students. Furthermore, there was also Go Green activity conducted by K1 – Grade 2 students. Students were asked to plant chili and tomato seedlings on prepared land. The last event conducted on that day was the Cleaning Time activity. This activity was followed by Grade 3, Grade 4, and senior school students. They were required to bring cleaning tools from home a few days before the event. Students cleaned up from the classroom, lobby, library, toilet and etc. Not only the classrooms but also the environment around the school. The goal of the Cleaning time activity was to build a sense of belonging of the environment and culture and thus love and keep it well. At the end of the activity, students were asked to reflect on activities that have been done for a week. Students showed good responses. Students realized that working out the cultural mandate can be started from small things like throwing out the garbage in its place, keeping the class clean, saving water usage, and so on.
