Promoting holistic education is what SDH strives to do. One of the ways to apply that is through inculcating values that are biblical to the school community. This year, SDH commits to partnering with an international interdenominational Christian youth organization, The Boys Brigade (BB) whose vision and mission are in line with the school’s vision and mission.

BB is an organization that combines drill and fun activities with Christian values to empower children and young people to make a difference. As we cooperate, implementing the principles and activities that BB has requires teachers – who will then take part as BB officers – to be trained in advance before then training the students. Therefore, from Friday, July 13th, 2018 to Saturday, July 14th, 2018 the school invited BB trainers to hold the Basic Officer Training Camp (BOTC) at school. BOTC was attended by all junior school teachers, senior school teachers, principals, and head of school. The goal of BOTC was generally to equip teachers as BB officers. Moreover, through BB mentoring activities, teachers would have a chance to know students more deeply and were expected to be able to help them grow in their knowledge of Christ that they might produce Godly character. Thus to achieve the goal, on the first day, teachers were introduced to and elaborated on BB theories, such as BB history, methods, traditions, structure, badges, uniform, and songs. After being equipped with all the theories as the base of all the practices, teachers did two main activities on the second day. The first part was a drill. Here, teachers were divided into ten different squads which each of the squads had approximately ten members. During the drill, BB trainers trained all teachers using BB terminology and traditions of drills. Teachers who missed a procedure or rule were also given consequences according to BB tradition to instill a sense of discipline. In between the training, teachers were also invited to play some games that needed cooperation and concentration which implement the fun activity of BB. In the last part of the training, teachers – in their squads – were trained to do knot-tying and make tents and stretchers from bamboo. This training has equipped teachers to be BB officers. On the other hand, this also shows that the school provides a place for teachers to engage in self-development by learning new challenging things as expected in SDH Teachers Profile.
