This event was held every once in a year in Sekolah Dian Harapan Makassar as an act of gratitude and appreciation of God’s magnificent works in creating human in cultural diversity also with the richness land of Indonesia. This event aimed to invite young people, especially every students in SDH Makassar, to know more about Indonesian heritage and appreciate it as God’s beautiful gift. Through this activity, students were introduced that each region in Indonesia has batik with a variety of distinctive characteristics and colors. In addition to learning about batik from various regions, elementary school students also practice drawing batik pattern on calico bags. Students use colored pencils and crayons to draw the calico bags to form batik that is different from each region. Their batik bags are displayed during class visits.

This event had been started in the morning when students were gathered in the classroom and they began it by listening to the teacher’s explanation about Batik in general using “powerpoint” and pictures on screen. After short explanation about Batik, they started to make Batik in a sponge bag. The activity was continued by visiting other class to listen to detailed Batik explanation in each class. Lower grade students, which are kindergarten students and grade 1, would visit the upper grade (grade 2-6) to see Batik bags that have been made by upper grade students. Every student has shown their enthusiasm in this Special Batik Day event, it is shown by how well they prepared Batik and its accessories as a host in every class. Hopefully with this event, every student is able to appreciate Batik as Indonesian heritage more and reach our school graduate profile to build a nurtural and caring relationship with others as God’s image bearers.
