Student Council Leadership Training 2017
As we are preparing the students for fulfilling their calling, we do not only equip them with knowledge to fill their brains but also we adorn them with leadership skills. Therefore, on 17th – 18th November 2017, we crafted basic leadership training at school with the theme “YOUTH Leader” which stands for Young Outstanding Unstoppable Humble Leader. The theme was in line with the Word of God taken from 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV) Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
For two days, students were provided with sessions in which they learnt about the characteristics of a leader, decision making, strategic planning, communication skills, managing conflict, ethics, and team building. In addition, there were two activities in which students were intentionally guided to know each other and build the bond in order to prepare them for teamwork. In every session that they followed, students showed their enthusiasm to learn and willingness to be shaped. On the first day, students learnt about the characteristics of a leader in two sessions and decision making. Then, they tied the bond in “Makrab” (Malam Keakraban) in which students were working in group to solve problems. The activity was closed with a bonfire where symbolically students burnt a paper on which they had written all things that could hinder them from working together and being a “youth leader”. On the second day, students were provided with strategic planning, ethics, communication skills, and managing conflict. The day was closed with outbound. The students reveled in the activity as they were building relationship and teamwork.
After having this training, it is hoped that the students are ready to serve in Student Council for a period, starting in November 2017 – October 2018. We do believe that these students will continue learning and apply the skills. Hence, they can proclaim the glory of God.
